The crafting mistake that wastes the most time

A common progression trap is assuming the raw resource named in your inventory is already the quest item. Lou’s Lagoon repeatedly asks you to process raw materials and then use the output in a repair or another recipe. The Refinery is introduced early and establishes this pattern.

Read every requirement as a chain

If the final goal is blocked, work backward. The clearest verified example is the reported path to Gleam Reef: you need a Glider; the glider path needs Bolstered Wood; Bolstered Wood needs Woodthorn; Woodthorn requires stronger Swirler progression; and the upgrade path itself uses currency plus crafted prerequisites such as Magnetic Bolts.

Do not treat those arrows as recipe quantities. The chain is verified from a long-form playthrough, while exact counts can change or were not exposed in our sources.

Machine checklist

The full game contains multiple factories / machines, and an achievement requires building all factories at least once. Whenever a job asks for an unfamiliar manufactured object, check whether you have unlocked the relevant machine before farming more raw materials.

Safe crafting workflow

  1. Pin the job and read the final requested item.
  2. Check the item description/Lexicom for its machine or prerequisite.
  3. Work backward to raw materials.
  4. Confirm your Swirler/Fishing Rod/Scooper level can actually gather them.
  5. Process once, then verify the next recipe before mass-crafting.

This page intentionally leaves blank any exact recipe quantity that our retail evidence does not support.

Player Q&A

What is the Swirler?

The Swirler is the core collection gadget used to harvest resources and move materials into repairs.

Why can a visible resource be impossible to harvest?

Resource nodes can require a higher gadget level, so check the harvest requirement before searching for another location.

What is the basic crafting loop?

Gather raw materials, process or manufacture them when required, then use the result for crafting, repairs or unlocks.

Should I repair radio towers early?

Usually yes: they reduce repeat travel during material and quest backtracking, and repairing all towers is a completion goal.

Does this guide invent missing recipe numbers?

No. Unverified quantities, drop rates, respawn timers and locations stay omitted or explicitly marked as needing verification.
